Cindy Wales Success Story January 2006

I was so excited the day my husband and I decided to start trying to have a baby.  I thought about how much my life would change and what kind of mom I wanted to be.  It was then that I decided I needed to take charge of my health and get my body ready for a baby.  There was no way I would have a successful pregnancy eating the way I was and not exercising.  Not to mention, I didn’t want to be the mom that sat on the bench and watched her kids play.

I met with Marjie to discuss my personal fitness plan and was so motivated by her advice.  I was worried at first that if I started to lift weights, I would just get bigger.  I didn’t want to look like a female body builder.  However, I decided to give it a try and much to my surprise, I was losing inches every month.  Not only did I lose inches but my arms, legs, back and tummy were starting to look toned.  I went from the girl who couldn’t stand to break a sweat and lift anything heavy to challenging myself all throughout the day.  I crave the feeling that I get when I am working hard and giving it my all.  I love looking at myself in the mirror now because I see the reflection of someone who made a goal, worked hard to achieve it, and decided that loving herself and taking charge of her health was the best gift she could give her husband and future baby.

I coupled my physical fitness activities with following the Weight Watchers flex Points plan.  Many of the health guidelines that I learned from attending my meetings were the same things Marjie had taught me.  One of the biggest habits I needed to learn to control was eating appropriate portion sizes.  My favorite past time was going to our local bar and grill and ordering a large bacon cheese burger with ranch covered french fries and washing it down with a nice cold beer.  Now the thought of that makes me sick to my stomach.  I LOVE fruits and veggies now and don’t have a problem eating at least 5 of them a day, most days I exceed that!  One of the tricks Marjie taught me was to try to stay away from processed foods.  This piece of advice has been extremely helpful not only for my healthy diet but also knowing that my baby will be eating the healthiest of foods packed with vitamins and minerals.

I just wanted to thank Marjie and my husband Jesse for supporting my health venture and giving me enthusiastic encouragement to reach my health goals.  Although I still have a few pounds left to lose before I reach my goal, I feel as though I have already achieved the healthy goals I set for myself.
